"Now, All is in Place" is a is a site-specific sound installation at the Tea House sound gallery, located in an intimate outdoor pavilion. The project is a collaboration between composer and cellist Tom Klein and Medusa, an ensemble of four female vocalists-composers.
The music aims to create a harmonious fusion of three diverse artistic elements: Medusa’s otherworldly voices, the eccentric poems of renown writer Yoel Hoffman and Klein’s lifelong journey with the cello.
The music is constructed of different movements, varying between instrumental interludes and songs. The composition uses an eclectic set of musical practices: traditional techniques such as counterpoint, canons and barbershop-style voice leading meet more sound-oriented approaches such as vocal art and improvisation. The surrounding urban environment of Jerusalem's streets becomes interwoven into the fabric, adding a layer of context and locality and establishing the entire work as being as its title implies: now, all is in place.
The piece is built for the unique quadrophonic sound system installed in the Tea House pavilion.
"Medusa" is a vocal ensemble composed of four singers - composers creating original music exploring the various qualities of the voice and the sonic capabilities hidden in the human voice. They perform a diverse repertoire ranging from abstract compositions to pieces combining alternative elements, to arrangements of folk music and works by avant-garde composers.
