SHINBONE
Performance by Tamar Borer and Tom Klein, 2019
Bohu Studio, Tel Aviv

"Turning a stick of silence, beating on silence, into a shinbone"
Tatsumi Hijikata
SHINBONE deals with unveiling an imaginary realm where two performers exist as inquisitive scientists within a research lab, reflecting and activating one another as entities in a parallel reality.
This place is as primordial as it is contemporary, as tangible as it is ethereal, known to be composed of natural and supernatural strata. Hidden here is the elixir of life, created within the marrow of the shinbone. In this space, a quiet stick, a cello bow, an aluminum pipe, a screw on a string can transform into the shinbone itself - the SHINBONE.
SHINBONE's performance space is confined to two podiums, placed one behind the other; one made of Polycryl, internally illuminated, on which Borer dances; the other made of white wood, on which Klein plays.
Within this confined space, they seek the freedom to re-examine both the movement of the unique body and the playing of invented instruments, defying the familiar.
*Another version, Black SHINBONE, was performed at Beit Mazia Dance Festival, Jerusalem, 13/6/19. Excerpts bellow, filmed by Eran Luzon.

At the same time, Borer operates in her very personal world, where there is a space for introverted beauty, while expanding her range of sensibilities…"
